Hills

In 1945, Lance Hill designed the Hills Hoist, a height-adjustable rotary clothes line and Hills Limited was born. Hill made the clotheslines in his backyard in Glenunga, South Australia, with his brother-in-law Harold Ling, before relocating manufacturing to a neighbouring factory. Hills Hoists Ltd was founded in January 1948, with Hill as chairman and Ling as a director. By 1954, the business had moved to a larger location and was producing 600 hoists per week, supplying branches all across Australia.
